A Study on the Relationship between Social Support and Health Status in Married Women

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the social support and health status in married women.
Data was collected from 92 married women in S city during August 20 - September 30, 1988. NSSQ (Norbeck Social Support Questionnaire) and C.M.I. (Cornell Medical Index) were used for measuring the social support and health status.
The results was as follows:
1. Scores on subscales and variables in the NSSQ.
1) functional variable: 153.04
(1) affect: 57.72
(2) affirmation: 58.98
(3) aid: 36.35
2) network variable
(1) number in network: 7.28
(2) duration of relationship: 33.03
(3) frequency of contact: 24.43
3) loss variable
(1) recent losses:-0.17
(2) loss quantity: 0.33
(3) loss quality: 1.23
2. Measuring values by C.M.I.
(1) physical health status: 23.51
(2) mental health status: 13.29
(3) total health status: 36.80
3. There was no significant correlation between social support and health status. However, the relationship between functional variable and network variable was showed significant positive correlation.
